PTL Fixture

2026 Individual pan-tilt two-axis movement, 16-bit laser dimming resolution, wireless or cabled DMX control

See it in action in the e.V installation.

PTL, or Pan-Tilt-Laser, is a 13x13x20cm lighting fixture that consists of a pan axis of movement, a tilt axis of movement, and a dimmable laser beam.

The device supports greater-than-360º pan movement, with a total pan rotation of 480º and tilt rotation of 130º.

Best when grouped in larger numbers, the device’s laser has a striking effect in small to medium spaces while remaining safe for direct crowd exposure due to its Class 3R maximum power.

Since the two movement axes are so small and light, the device can move faster than a standard moving light fixture, resulting in dramatic cues or speedy move-in-black.

The standard control interface for the device is DMX - either wireless over Art-Net, or wired with standard XLR cable to the optional panel mount adapters. When connected over Art-Net, the device also supports custom control commands on a second universe including response packets for current device state. OTA is also supported for easy group firmware updates.

Art-Net over a cabled ethernet connection is available in an upgraded version.

Each PTL is powered by a standard 120-240VAC mains input with power passthrough. An OLED screen on the device allows quick control and troubleshooting. All functionality provided by the custom dual stepper driver PCB internally, also designed by Second String Studios.

Both flush mount (pictured) and a standard hook clamp for pipe or truss mounting supported.
