Studio

Second String Studios was founded in 2019 in San Francisco to collect several different multi-disciplinary projects under one central name. The studio focuses on lighting- and kinetics-based artwork as well as the custom hardware and tools that drive them.

Now located in Berlin, Germany, Second String Studios continues to explore both unique mediums and also non-standard combinations of more common materials. With over a decade of experience across all manner of physical fabrication, electronics design, firmware, and software, we are uniquely positioned to work from concept sketch to fully-realized productions without any disruption.

Second String Studios also collaborates worldwide with other artists, brands, and companies to realize their ideas. We are just as comfortable being the technical know-how that physically builds your idea as we are helping to design your creative concept.

In addition to artworks, the studio also designs and builds its own hardware tools like Art-Net and DMX controllers, dimmer systems, and more. These products are used for all of our pieces and are also available for external projects in order to provide more tailored results at a lower cost than off-the-shelf goods.
